5.8 Cordless Phone Advantages:
- Most
secure if concerned with eavesdropping
- Least
interference to wireless networks, other phone frequencies and
microwaves
- All
these phones come with a multiple handset capability, which
accommodate up to 4 remote handsets supported by a single base.
- The
Uniden
TRU8885 series can
accommodate up to 2 handsets total.
This feature is especially handy for rooms where phone
jacks are not close by or not available.
Disadvantages:
- Limited
range. Although
these phones have higher frequencies, the range is not always
better.
- The
5.8 GHz range is no better than the average 2.4 GHz phones.
If you need a long range phone then a 900
MHz phone would be your best choice.
Editor’s Recommendations:
The Panasonic
5.8GHz Cordless
Phone
If you’re shopping for a Panasonic
5.8GHz phone, we highly recommend the Panasonic KX-TG5210M or the
Panasonic KX-TG5230M cordless phones as they operate entirely at 5.8 GHz.
The 5.8 GHz phone operates interference free with wireless networks and wireless
cameras/monitoring devices.
The older units such as the AT&T 5840, AT&T 5870 and the
VTech VT5831 and VT5881 units are 5.8 GHz one way and 2.4 GHz the
other. The newer AT&T 5860s
and the new Vtech's including the TRU8885, TRU8866 operate at the
full 5.8Ghz range.
This
editor rates the Panasonic 5240M
with 5 stars and Panasonic
5100M with 4 stars (only because it is an
older model) as it has the lowest product
return rate coupled with a well designed phone system with great
functionality. The Panasonic
KX-TG6500 - 2 line 5.8 GHz phone
is also rated with 5 stars as it is the only 2 line 5.8 GHz phone
on the market with a digital answering machine. The Uniden
TRU8866 falls short as the speakerphone is not full duplex
and does not come with an answering machine.
